A litter from: Little Brownies O'Henry SH and Little Brownies Ginger SnapJanuary 2023Scroll down to see pictures and video. Ginger’s x-ray to count the number of pups to anticipate. It was taken one week before birth. The puppies with their mom just an hour after they had all arrived. A better view of their size with a view of them spread out in the whelping box. Rogue snuggles with mom after dinner. They had their first taste of puppy food at 3.5 weeks of age. They liked it… a lot. A day later they were using their feeding station Budweiser hogging the toys during a play session Yakima trying to figure out what dad is doing with the camera. O’doul watching all the goings on At four weeks of age the pups moved from the whelping box, where they were born, to a pen. The pans contain pet bedding and are used for potty training. The pups quickly learn to do their business in the pan. They don’t spread out very far when it comes time to nap, but they do have the option of doing so. This is Pilsner playing with the camo pillow, he loves to carry around. And another 20 minutes later, the pups decided it was time for a nap. This day was a bit warmer than they had been and some of the snow had melted so we took them outside to eat and check out the grass… and snow. Getting the pups use to different things under foot is an important aspect of helping them grow up. O’Doul found a stick buried in the snow, dug it up and took off with it! Six boys and no girls. Here they are in the incubator helping them to dry, stay warm, and get a good supply of oxygen. The theme for names is beer - given that we have, as our friend described, a six pack. Across the top we have: Purple collar is Pilsner - Red collar is Rogue (a brewery in Portland, OR) - Green collar is Guinness - Orange collar is O’Douls and the Yellow collar is Yakima (a former brewery in Yakima, WA). Front and center is Budweiser in the Blue collar The pups are now a week old and you can see how much they have grown; just compare to the picture on the right to see the growth. Dinner time for the pups. The eyes opened at 13 days of age. On the left is O’doul and on the right is Guiness. The eye color will change as they mature. By the time they go to new homes the color will be hazel to brown. After a hearty meal mom gave them a drink to help wash all that good food down. The pups can barely find room to get in and nurse. Rogue, on left, is the biggest, and Pilzner, on right is the smallest, but only by about 8 ounces. Guinness, thinking about taking the toy from Pilzner Science tells us that it is the eyes of a puppy that endears us so much. They are lovely. The current pen is 4’ x 6’ (24 square feet) and give the pups added room to stretch their legs, play, and spread out at nap time. By five weeks of age the pups are in a 6’ x 6’ pen so they have more room to spread out and play. They also get the use of a crate, sans a door, to begin accustoming themselves to sleeping in one later in life. Within 15 minutes the pups were checking out the crate. The pups get to come out of the pen a couple of times a day to romp and play in the room. Here they are playing in their tunnel, a favorite of all litters. A couple of the pups venturing out and checking the garden area. The snow that remained did not bother the pups at all. In fact, it seemed to invigorate them some. At six weeks of age the pups get their first heartworm preventative, a bath and their microchip inserted. This is Yakima during his bath time. Does he look happy? Watch the pups grow!
