This x-ray was taken the Friday before delivery. You should be able to count eight pups by matching skulls with spines. The x-ray helps us to be better prepared.
The pups are in the incubator while mom gets cleaned up following delivery.
This was taken at one week of age. The pups have already doubled their weight and are doing great.
Another view of the pups at a week of age. Maks is using Olena as a pillow.
Borys, in the blue collar, is learning to walk and trying to make it over to mom. They are about two weeks old at this point.
Their first time eating soft kibble. They took to it right away… of course.
After every big meal one must take a good nap.
After a few days the pups graduated to using their individual bowls at dinner time.
By five weeks of age the pups went from a 4’ x 4’ pen to a 4’ x 6’ pen and then to this 6’ x 6’ pen in the walkout basement. They have more room to stretch out in their pen now and can sleep in the crate if they so choose.
In the basement there is plenty of room for the pups to play with mom.
The tunnel is a favorite of the pups. They love to chase each other through the tunnel and back again. Dragging it around the room is also fun. This is Orest.
Oops! I think this one slipped off the bed. He did not seem to care too much.
The weather changed for a few days and warmed it up to where the pups could go outside. Here they are joined by mom. Don’t be alarmed by mom’s bald spots. The girls lose coat as they begin to wean the pups. It will all fill back in within several weeks.
This was Ro the day before delivery. She was ready to get it over with.
A better look at the puppies following delivery and clean-up.
There were two girls and six boys born to the litter. We always give them temporary names while they are with us. The theme for this litter is Ukrainian names in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, battling against the Russian dictator and his army.
The girls are: Anichka - with the violet-colored collar and Olena - with the yellow collar
The boys are: Pavlo - dark purple collar, Orest - orange collar, Borys - blue collar, Valentyn - red collar, Glib - green collar, and Maks - without a collar
This was taken on the first night. Anichka snuggling with mom.
Until they are very stable the pups are weighed twice a day. Here is Glib at his last weigh in.
Maks is sitting up and practicing his howl while his sister, Oleana looks on. These two are often together.
Oleana taking some of her first real steps.
Mom cleaning up the dinner table mess the pups left behind.
At four weeks of age, they moved from the whelping box to a 4’ x 4’ pen and started to learn to use their litter pans to potty.
Anichka has the toy, but Orest is thinking that maybe it should be his.
They also have more things to play with and experiences to have. Here they are playing at what we call the puppy play station.
Of course, after a play session it is always good to take a nap.
This is Oleana getting her first bath. At six weeks of age the pups have a bit of a spa day. Nails are trimmed (again), they get a bath, and they have their microchips inserted. These pups were real champs and did very little fussing.
Starting at the top and going clockwise, you have Orest, Anichka and then Borys.
These three brothers look like they are on a mission. No doubt that there could be trouble brewing.
This is the first video of the litter. It starts with the pups at about two weeks of age and progresses to when they are a little more than three weeks old.
