The first baby pictures

Week 2

So much is happening this week from eyes and ears opening to pups starting to stand and walk. Above is Raisin just 11 days old.

Speaking of Leland, here is a picture comparing her size (smallest in the litter) to Sante (biggest in the litter) for now.

Snack time before nap time.

Week 3

A little supplementing for the pups but mom is keeping an eye on them. How does she get herself in the little box? And why?

It is time to set up a pen and move out of the whelping box but mom is not so sure.

Again with the water dispenser?

It is just water, nothing more, but apparently it makes for a good place to sleep.

Weeks 4 and 5

After just two days the pups have moved to a 4’ x 6’ pen and are using the litter pans with no mistakes.

At five weeks of age the pups moved to their largest pen, which is 6’ x 6’. They are now in the walk-out basement with outdoor access when the weather is right.

Weeks six and seven

The outside pen allows them to lounge in the sun or shade, whichever they prefer

Two pups out for a run

Perch asks, “How about this stick?”

Davia - Little Brownies Davia

Davia and pups one hour after the birth of the last puppy

In the picture to the left, the pups are now one week old. They have had the dew claws removed and begun their Early Neurologic Stimulation and Early Scent Introduction exercises. They are weighed on a regular basis and have been gaining weight at the level expected.

The theme for this litter was chosen to be Michigan Rivers and Lakes, so we have the following names assigned to each puppy, identified by the color of the collar. In order of birth they are:

Platte - purple (M) Betsie - light blue (F) Raisin - red (F) Goose - green (M)

Sante - yellow (F) Otter - orange (M) Boardman - blue (M)

Leland - lime green (F) Perch - light purple (F)

At this age the pups get tired quickly. This is Leland using Betsie as a pillow.

Goose is not shy but he is tired.

Aww, Boardman and Platte snuggle with mom. She loves her pups!

The new pen is 4’ x 4’ with litter pans for potty time. Within a couple of days it will grow to 4’ x 6’.

Using the water bowl was a quick learning experience.

Their first time outside starts with lunch because food always makes everything perfectly fine.

A few random photos of the pups’ first time out in the grass. It was a sunny day, with the temperature in the mid seventies. They loved the grass and all the new smells. Clockwise, starting at the left, are Raisin, Otter, Betsie, Perch, and pups following Lynn around the yard.

Raisin was first to check out the play station

Leland loves to carry things… a stick will do

Mom chilling out with the pups.

Goose says it is nap time now, so he is snuggling with mama.

The biggest advancement of the week is how well they are up and walking around. Some are even beginning to play and chase.

Okay puppies, why are you sleeping like this? It is just a water bowl, nothing more.

They like the added space and are already using their pans to potty.

The reason the pups moved to a pen a little earlier than normal? Blame it on Boardman.

Mom visiting with the pups in the new pen.

The pups’ outside pen where they can relax and get fresh air and sunshine.

The big pens have a crate for the pups to use and they take to it quickly. Yes, all nine pups are in there just like all nine pups are in the dog bed in the picture on the right.

The pups out on a walk about at six weeks of age.

They found the old garden and it looks interesting

Lets go for a walk and excitement ensues

The new compost bins are interesting

At six weeks the pups get a toe nail trim, bath, and microchipped. Otter was determined to not have a bath.
